- Go early or late: low sun gives the peaks shape and colour, while midday light makes them flat and hazy.

- Snow fools the camera into underexposing; add about one stop of exposure compensation to keep it white instead of grey.
- A polarising filter darkens the blue sky and cuts haze in the distance.
