Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island. Patong Beach on the west coast has sand, palms and umbrellas by day and the neon of Bangla Road by night; long-tail boats and fishing boats leave from the bays for the islands and for deep-sea fishing.

The Phi Phi Islands

About two hours by boat from Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands rise from the sea as sheer limestone cliffs covered in jungle. On uninhabited Phi Phi Leh lie Maya Bay, made famous by the film The Beach and now protected, with visits limited and no swimming, the emerald Pileh Lagoon and the Viking Cave, where swiftlets build the nests used for bird’s nest soup.

Questions about these photos

Can I use these Phuket pictures for free?

Yes, for personal and commercial projects. All we ask is a link back to BigFoto.com; the box at the top of the page has a credit link you can copy.

Can you swim in Maya Bay?

No. Maya Bay reopened in 2022 after years of closure to let the reef recover; boats now drop visitors at a jetty on the back of the island, and swimming in the bay is not allowed.
