Rab town on its walls with a bell tower

Rab in 40 free photos. The town of Rab lies on a narrow ridge between the harbour and the open sea, and its four bell towers rising in a row above the old walls make one of the best-known views in the Kvarner Gulf.

Rab old town

Three parallel streets run along the ridge, linked by steep lanes, past Romanesque churches, Gothic and Renaissance palaces with carved balconies and coats of arms, and an old loggia. The tallest bell tower, that of St Mary the Great, dates from the 13th century and can be climbed. Bronze statues stand in the squares and parks, among them St Christopher, the patron saint of the island.

The walls and the harbour

Sea walls still close the town on the southern side, and below them the harbour fills with boats. The Komrčar park, planted in the 19th century, gives shade between the town and the beaches; in late July the Rab Fair brings the Middle Ages back with crossbow contests and costumes.
