The cathedral, the square and the old streets
Greek settlers from Vis founded Tragurion here in the 3rd century BC, and the street plan still follows their grid. The Cathedral of St Lawrence dominates the main square, and its west portal, carved by Master Radovan in 1240, with Adam and Eve, lions and scenes from the months of the year, is one of the finest Romanesque works in Croatia. Around the square stand the town hall, the loggia and the clock tower, and from there narrow lanes, palaces and small churches fill the whole island.

The Riva and the Kamerlengo Fortress
The southern side of the island is a wide promenade lined with palms, cafes and moored boats, facing Čiovo across the channel. At its western end the Venetians built the Kamerlengo Fortress in the 15th century; climb its tower for a view over the town, or come in summer for an open-air concert inside the walls.
