Hvar town

The main square, the Pjaca, is the largest in Dalmatia, closed at one end by St Stephen’s Cathedral and its bell tower and open at the other to the harbour. Along the waterfront stand the loggia and the Arsenal, whose upper floor holds a theatre from 1612, one of the oldest public theatres in Europe. A steep path leads up through pines to the Spanish Fortress, the Fortica, with the best view over the roofs to the Pakleni islands.
